Basic Laws

Boyle's Law
The volume of a gas is inversely proportional to its volume.
Charles' Law
The volume is directly proportional to the temperature.

So the pressure increases, the temperature increases too.

In diesel engines, the air is compressed and the pressure and the temperature is increased. When the fuel is sprayed, it is easily burned. The diesel
engines are also called compression ignition engines because of this principle.

The water boils at
100 °C at sea level.
The water boils below 100 °C on a high mountain because of high pressure.
